Premium Arita Mikan: Certified for Taste and Quality
We are confident in the taste, delivering only Arita Mikan strictly selected by the JA Arida/AQ Central Selection Facility that have undergone complete checks for sugar content, acidity, and floating peel (ukikawa).
Arita Mikan has a long history, spanning 450 years since the Edo period. This long history has rooted Mikan cultivation in Arida to such an extent that it was once said, “The prosperity of this town is determined by how well the Mikan sell.”
Approximately 90% of the cultivated land in Arida is dedicated to citrus, and 90% of that is Unshū Mikan (Satsuma Mandarins). This means the majority of farmers in Arida are Mikan specialists. The Mikan trees sprout in spring and bloom in May. Cultivators prune the trees and thin out the flowers and fruit to intensify and enhance the flavor of the remaining Mikan. In addition, Arida farmers are constantly working—controlling pests and diseases and implementing methods to improve flavor—laboring diligently even through the hot summer months without rest.
